THE SOUND OF THE GALAXY

When we started the Galaxy project the aim

was to win the Emma Euro finals and take part

of tuning shows. The Galaxy name was chosen

because DLS products are known to be super-

natural, nearly too good to be from earth. The

whole project is made around this theme.

We stripped the car totally naked inside and

applied the Dynamat damping mats.

Sound dampening is one of the more important

details in order to get real live and dynamic

sound in a competition car.

One of our main targets was to get a supernatu-

ral image and sound stage. To achieve that we

had to custom build a new dashboard. The first

dashboard didn’t sound perfect, so we made

a second one. This dashboard has a unique

speaker setup. It has one pair of Nobelium 5”

for the midbass, another pair for the midrange,

plus an IR-10 subwoofer facing down towards

the floor. One pair of Nobelium Nanoplate tweet-

ers were installed inside the side mirrors. The

speaker setup is the result of intensive testing

and analysing of the acoustical environment

inside the Galaxy. This gave us a very detailed

sound with great harmony.

The sound system is fully active using an Alpine

F1 head unit and processor (a fully active

systems means that no passive crossovers are

used to the speakers).

The fantastic sounding tube amplifier TA-2 was

used for tweeters and midrange, the A-3 for

midbass and the A-6 for the subwoofer.

To get full performance from the amplifiers we

installed two high power batteries in the trunk.

All the speaker grills, door panels, trunk panels

and the steering wheel were custom made.

The Galaxy is not only a sound project; it’s also

a tuning car. We transformed it to a racing

RSI Beetle, front and back bumper, all fenders

and spoilers were changed.

Other highlights are the 20 inch chromed

wheels, new exhaust system, racing seats and

a custom made chromed steering wheel with a

sound system remote control. The Galaxy won

all tuning competitions it took part in during

2006.
